Check-in

Hey all,

Just thought I'd do a check in and let you guys know where I stand writing wise since I've been offline for the past few months.

I removed IWOAK from FP last night. I'm getting into the heavier lifting stage of rewriting it and after going over it I just didn't feel comfortable leaving it up. Also, to all the people who reread it, more power to you because that's 200k words of rambling for a lot of it and unnecessary detail.

I'm definitely going to be tightening it up, cutting unnecessary subplots (some I'm actually considering transferring over to FFYT since it'll work in the context of that story a lot better, especially since I'll be aging the characters up by about two years to make it flow better with the pacing).

Fall For Your Type is coming along, I'm on the fence on whether or not I should post some of the rough opening chapters on here if I'm going to try and publish it as part of a series/duology.

This whole thing is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Like, I knew the actual process wasn't easy but still, it feels like an uphill battle.

I think that's about it.

I hope everything is going well in your lives!

  1. Hi there!!! Long time no talk so I wanted to stop by your blog to see how things were going. Busy for you too it seems! I've let 2014 get the better of me and I'm trying to get back on track in all aspects of my life. So much is going on... it's overwhelming. It's nice to hear that you're writing (or thinking about writing). I'm currently editing something I wrote toward the end of last year (I think), but I haven't really wrote anything new in quite a while. I need to figure it out :).

Anyway, hope you're well and work has eased up a bit. There's nothing worse than a lay off where more work is dumped on your lap as a result. I'm glad you got to keep your job though (hopefully you are as well!)

    Take care,
    Tanya

    1. I know what you mean about 204 getting the better of you. End of 2013/beginning of 2014 I was boxing once a week and starting Muay Thai and then everything started to back slide.

Writing has been really spotty for me, and don't get me started on editing. I know I'm going to be rewriting the whole thing, but I want to have the basic down and a clean base, and oh mannnnn.

I am honestly in awe at your ability to push through the Killing Series as 'quickly' as you did even though I know your readers might not agree, lol.

I've been following Susan Dennard's blog of late (you may have read some of her work on FP when you first went on there, her and SJ Maas were on the same time as us, except they're now published professionally) it's interesting to see how she handles certain things although her writing style/take on writing is different than mine.

I have a few links I've been saving up to send to you, I'll probably do that now actually, lol.

Work hasn't really eased up but I have a much stronger support group with my new team which is really nice. And yeah, I'm glad I kept my job as well, things are hard enough as it is, lol.

  2. When you get a chance send me the link to Susan Dennard's blog. I'd love to see how a former fictionpress-er made the big time! :)

Yeah, I've been in a total back slide. I gained about 20 pounds over the last 5 months and I'm not trying to get it off before I go to London in August. It probably won't all come off, but if I can get back into a good pattern that's all that matters.

That KM series still needs a little cleaning up, but the books are doing well (especially in the UK). I'm glad people can see past those little typos (for the most part). I've found that I actually really enjoy the editing part of this process (until it comes to putting edits into the computer!). I feel like the stories become more rounded during editing. I tend to write my first drafts really quick and they're REALLY messy and full of shallow parts that I have to make deeper later. I think I'm okay with this method overall, but I'd like to get to a place where my first drafts don't need so much work! :)

  3. Long time no see, it's nice to hear how you're getting on. The books you guys mentioned above sound interesting, do you know where I can get them? I have empty shelf space.

I'd love to say post some of yoyr ffyt rough drafts but if you're on the fence then your gut is saying no essentially, trust it. Keep on trucking though.

  4. Hey Stretch19,

If you're talking about A Starter Boyfriend that's on Amazon right now :

    http://www.amazon.com/Tatiana-Moore/e/B008JIVIPQ

And here's a link to the first few chapters if you want to check out the writing style before trying:

Susan Dennard adn SJ Maas are both in bookstores as well as online, here are links to their websites. (If you were into fantasy at any point during the early days of FP (not sure if you were on then) you'd have heard of SJ Maas, she did Throne of Glass and it was one of the first stories that (to my knowledge) got massively popular.

    http://susandennard.com/

And I think I might, just because I'm finding it much harder to write for myself (I've gotten way too used to the write a chapter, post on fp and get instant feedback writing of the past few years, lol).

    How's everything with you?

  5. Thanks for the info, I've definitely heard of throne of glass and have been considering reading it for a while so I just might indulge.

Other than filling shelf space I've been cool, just surviving life at the moment.
